River Road

The road flows
Like a river
Curves its way ‘cross
Meadows of steel.
Cuts a canyon
Through the city
Eroding buildings
Over time.
Flowering plants cling
To the cliff face
High-rise office
Window box.
Gulls and pigeons
Nest on ledges
Vehicles move like
Massive fish.
Tides of transport
Lorry trawlers
Motorbike mosquitoes
Dart and weave.
People meet
On kerbside beaches
In cafés
Looking out to see…
Crossing currents
Swirls and eddies
Rushing roaring
River road
